4.57 Megalodon Tooth Jet Black Front, Marbled Back with Prehistoric Clam Hole

  

Acquired from a private collection at an estate sale, this is an exceptional, high-character specimen that carries an incredible geological story. It is completely natural with absolutely.

NO restoration, NO repairs, and NO fillers. The front of the tooth features a highly sought-after, sleek, and uniform. The reverse side is a complete contrast-a beautiful, high-variety. Marbled mosaic of blue-gray, charcoal, and rust-orange. It looks like two completely different, stunning fossils depending on which side you display! The delicate V-shaped band (bourlette) between the root and blade is fully intact and beautifully dual-toned, showing a natural split of rust-orange on the left and rich black across the center and right.

Prehistoric Clam Borehole An Ichnofossil! This is a true fossil within a fossil!

" The thick root features a natural, tapered borehole measuring roughly 1/4" on the reverse side and narrowing down to 1/8 on the front. This was bored millions of years ago by a prehistoric boring bivalve/clam while the tooth rested on the ancient Miocene ocean floor.

It adds incredible scientific interest and a massive talking point for display. This is an authentic, rugged "dark-water" river specimen with honest, natural paleo-wear. The serrations have been naturally smoothed on the front face by ancient river currents, but they remain clearly visible, distinct, and tactile on the protected reverse side. There is a normal patch of missing enamel in the center-front of the blade, exposing the heavily mineralized interior structure beneath.

The root is incredibly dense, solid, heavy, and features the classic rocky, porous texture unique to genuine river fossils that have absorbed rich iron and manganese over millions of years. 3.6 to 15 Million Years Old (Miocene to Pliocene Epochs). Ancient coastal limestone matrix / Southeast US River Drainage (South Carolina Lowcountry). This tooth will be packed with extreme care in a heavily padded box to ensure it arrives safely.
