(Internal #S308-1) This is a fossil OTODUS OBLIQUUS shark tooth (coloring is natural from fossilizing in this color of sediment); solid specimen (none of our teeth are repaired or restored, these are fully natural). 3 long (measured on the slant longest side).
Enamel, edge, cusps and root all perfect. Lamna obliqua is the former name for the extinct megatooth shark now classified as Otodus obliquus, an early apex predator from the Paleocene-Eocene, known for its triangular teeth and ancestor to Megalodon (Otodus megalodon).
Originally placed in the Lamna genus (mackerel sharks), scientists later moved it to Otodus within the extinct Otodontidae family, recognizing its distinct lineage from modern Lamna species like the porbeagle.
